MANILA, Philippines -- Paintings usually adorn the walls of museums or art lovers' houses--admired from afar, not to be touched lest their beauty be tainted.
But there are works of art that thrive on human touch, and some actually reside almost permanently on the owners' arms.
These are wearable art--exactly what Baubles Bangles N Beads' (BBB) pieces are. Their colorful wooden bangles are literally works of art in bring-anywhere sizes, with designs ranging from simple ethnic swirls to complicated actual portraits.
"I was an artist by profession and I really wanted to incorporate art into accessories," says Venny Lex Santos, the man responsible for hundreds of unique BBB bangle designs. "Bangles were the easiest way to do that since they provided a big enough canvas for painting."
So after 15 years of working in an art gallery as resident artist, and everything else besides, Venny decided to pursue another calling in the art scene.
It also helped that his girlfriend and business partner Paoling Yiu is a huge bangle person.
